Mission & Vision

General Secretary’s Office


The General Secretary is appointed by the General Assembly or the Executive Committee, and serves as the Chief Executive Officer of the Council. He/She is also the official spokesperson.

The Office of the General Secretary therefore bears ultimate responsibility for the Council in all its operations and functions.



As noted in the 6th Corporate Plan of the Council 92014 – 2018), the goal of the Office of the General Secretary is to provide overall strategic leadership aimed at ensuring achievement of the Council’s Vision and Mission.



To provide strategic leadership in the articulation and implementation of the vision and mission of the Council.



To enable the Office of the General Secretary achieve its objective, the following activities are planned to be undertaken during the Corporate Plan period:

  • Facilitate constitutional and policy organs of the Council
  • Provide leadership to the management and staff of the Council
  • Facilitate fellowship and ecumenism
  • Facilitate prudent stewardship of Council resources
  • Execute all legal documents on behalf of the Council
  • Promote good relations between the Council and other bodies nationally and internationally
  • Perpetuate the values and heritage of the Council
  • Secure the interests of the Council in subsidiary organisations
  • Spearhead national advocacy initiatives
