Press Statement

Preamble
The Executive Committee of the National Council of Churches of Kenya has met here at Jumuia Conference and Country Home, Limuru, to prayerfully reflect on the national reform process with specific focus on the just concluded referendum. We especially noted the words of Ecclesiastes 3: 1 – 8:

REJECT THE PROPOSED CONSTITUTION PEACEFULLY

PRESS STATEMENT BY THE “NO” NATIONAL REFERENDUM COMMITTEES

Tomorrow, Kenyans will hold their second referendum on a proposed new constitution. This will be a chance for all to determine the quality and nature of our future. Tomorrow, we shall collectively as Kenyans make a decision on the content and character of the laws that will guide our lives for decades to come. The decision that Kenyans make tomorrow must therefore be one that is made freely by all eligible voters.

2010 REFERENDUM PROCESS ND OUTCOMES

PRESS STATEMENT BY THE KENYA CHRISTIAN CHURCH LEADERS

The Christian church in Kenya wishes to thank all Kenyans for voting peacefully during the referendum held yesterday. We especially appreciate the more than two million Kenyans who courageously stood to demand that the anomalies in the proposed constitution be addressed before the same is passed. We will forever hold fond memories of those who sacrificed their lives at Uhuru Park, Mukuru Kwa Reuben and other incidences of violence during this process.

INVITATION TO ECUMENICAL PRAYER SERVICE

Press Statement

We the Christian Church leaders have gathered here in unity of purpose to reassure our people of our togetherness and commitment to the cause of Jesus Christ to stand for and give life, to the fullest. This is as Jesus promised in John 10: 10.

As we countdown to the referendum, we realize the need for us to come together as your Christian leaders to urge you to remain peaceful and to invite you to prayer.
