Empower People Holistically, GS Encourages Churches
Oliver Kisaka, the Deputy General Secretary, delivers a sermon during the Sunday Service at ABC MachakosIt is crucial that the social economic projects being undertaken by churches at the grassroots level be expanded and enhanced, Reverend Canon Peter Karanja, the General Secretary, has said. He pointed that the impact of the investment of the church in the lives of the people should be felt within the communities across the country.
Reverend Canon Karanja was speaking when he toured various projects being implemented by the Africa Brotherhood Church in Machakos area over the weekend.
“The NCCK is keen to partner with our churches to establish economic projects to empower out people across the country,” he said.
Reverend Canon Karanja further emphasized on the need by the churches to publicise the work they are doing within the communities, in which process the Council will provide technical support.

The ABC has a wide range of projects in the area covering different sectors including education, health, business and agriculture.
Of note, the ABC currently sponsors 27 village polytechnics, over 300 primary and secondary schools, 3 divinity schools and one integrated college. The integrated college has course in theology, education and information technology. Consultations with the Commission for Higher
Education are ongoing with a view to having the integrated college awarded a charter to operate as a university.
In addition, the church provides trainings on sustainable agriculture at their agricultural research and technology centre located at the Machakos Show Ground.

The ABC was among the first churches in the region to train people on
“farming God’s way”, which is a method that does not involve ploughing. This method has been proved to yield greater harvests.
