Drought Is a Result of Failing to Plan

Drought Is a Result of Failing to Plan
The current hunger being experienced in Kenya is a result of failure to plan on the part of individual Kenyans and the government, the General Secretary, Rev. Canon Peter Karanja, has said.
Rev. Canon Karanja was sharing a message based on Proverbs 6: 6-11 in which he challenged Christians to learn from the ant and be diligent in maximizing on the use of the resources God has given them. He further said that Kenyans should shift away from the culture of depending on their leaders to do everything for them and instead learn to diligently work to feed themselves. As part of the shift towards self reliance, the General Secretary challenged the congregation to embrace entrepreneurship and commercial farming as a way of alleviating poverty in their families and community. He took the opportunity to introduce to them NCCK’S microfinance, SMEP-DTM, which is a vehicle from which church members can receive financial services with a Christian touch. After the worship service, officials from the microfinance spent some time with members of the church and their leaders exploring financing options for their projects. The General Secretary was on a visit to the headquarters of the African Interior Church at Ebunangwe, Kakamega. After the worship service, he met with the leadership and pastors of the church to deliberate on various issues including leadership development, resource mobilization and management and poverty eradication. The interventions and engagements agreed upon during the meeting will be followed up by the Capacity Building for Membership programme till full implementation. Appreciating the visit and subsequent meeting with the GS, the head of the church, Archbishop Richard Ong’anda, remarked: “We are delighted that our GS has adopted this trend of coming to see what we are doing on the ground.” The service and subsequent meeting was attended by all the pastors of the African Interior Church. This was the ninth church the GS and his delegation have visited this year. Other churches the GS has visited include The Mennonite Church, African Israel Nineveh Church, the African Church of the Holy Spirit, the African Christian Churches and Schools, the African Independent Pentecostal Church of Africa, Zion Harvest Mission, the Pentecostal Evangelism Fellowship of Africa and Lyahuka Church.
NCCK GSSpeaking when preaching at the African Interior Church headquarters last Sunday, the GS said that “The current drought is a vote of no confidence with our government for failing to plan even after being warned by the meteorological department”.
