The National Council of Churches of Kenya in collaboration with the ICC office in Kenya have translated a description book of the Court into different local languages.

The languages include Kikuyu, Kalenjin and Luo. The aim is to demystify the International Criminal Court, diffuse tensions and promote coexistence.

The two organisations have been holding grassroots forums across the country as part of the measures.

Officials have been training locals on the ICC and peace implications in specific high-risk areas.The books are being distributed to locals to ensure they have a clear understanding on the working of the Court including its jurisdiction, mandate and operations.

NCCK hopes that through this, the country can diffuse any political undertones that may create inter-community conflict and disharmony even as the ICC process continues. As the ruling of the cases against the ‘Ocampo six’ nears, NCCK hopes that the grassroots leaders trained will be key in promoting peace and coexistence.
